Position Summary &amp Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Office Coordinator position is the entry level for the Engineering Technician class series and is located in Salina, KS. Successful candidates may be appointed at a higher-level dependent upon experience and qualifications. This position assists construction personnel in executing the continuous flow of paperwork and documentation necessary to administer contracts, maintains inventory of equipment and filing system, and assists in administering construction contracts.

NOTE: The employee in this position must also maintain Certified Inspection certifications under the KDOT CIT Program as outlined in the Engineering Technician Progression Manual for the specific job path and any additional as outlined by the Senior Manager.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates preparation and submission of weekly construction reports, notification of working days charged, log of pile driving, weekly surfacing reports, contractor’s monthly and semi-monthly payment vouchers, changes in plans, and force account statements, and checks and maintains records on wage rates, contractor payrolls, and affidavits.
  • Coordinates the preparation and submission of all required computations, recapitulations, and documentation necessary to process change orders and complete final payments to the contractor.
  • Maintains a system of office management that ensures all necessary forms and reports are submitted, checks and maintains records on contractors’ payrolls, affidavits, and EEO reports, and maintains and updates a complete functional filing system for all office records. This position will also train clerical personnel in the proper office procedures.
  • Serves as inspector on a construction project or in a concrete or asphalt plant and prepares required information for projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as maintaining capital inventory, coordinating the preparation and submission of completed construction plans, and combines construction files for all assigned projects.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.

Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:

  • A CDL must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained. KDOT provides CDL training at no cost to the employee.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
  • This CDL position is subject to drug and alcohol testing under the authority of the US Department of Transportation. The selected candidate will be required to pass a DOT pre-employment/pre-duty drug test as a condition of employment in this position. (This position will also require you to participate in random testing, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.)
  • Any Commercial Driver who has received a Confirmed Positive Result or the Equivalent and has not successfully completed all Rehabilitation Program requirements and follow-up testing requirements is not eligible for this position. (Per SOM 2.1.10).
  • Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
