Laundry Aide

JOB TITLE : Laundry Aide

REPORTS TO : Laundry Supervisor

SALARY CLASSIFICATION : Hourly

General Description :

Performs general laundry duties and distributes clean linens to departments. Cleans equipment and work area.

Essential Job Functions :

1. Collects soiled linens, and assists in sorting and stain removal.

2. Removes linens from dryers and sorts.

3. Hangs garments that do not require pressing.

4. Starches designated items.

5. Mangles, presses, or hand irons articles as required.

6. Folds, counts and stacks linens, etc. according to departments, or for shelving in linen supply room.

7. Keeps records of linen weight by department as needed.

8. Puts linens on carts and distributes to departments according to their daily predetermined needs.

9. Inspects linens for wear and tear and disposes of, or sets aside for repair.

10. Reports linen needs to Supervisor.

11. Cleans equipment and work area daily and as scheduled.

12. May perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.

Work Area and Working Conditions :

• Well-lighted, ventilated open corridor/work area.
• Generally quiet area, subject to frequent interruptions.
• Exposed to heat and steam.
• May handle contaminated linens when necessary

Entry Level Qualifications :

• High School diploma required.
• Must be 25 years of age.
• Good physical health.
• Ability to cooperate with others.

Physical Requirements :

1. Must be able to lift, carry packages and equipment up to 30 lbs.

2. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.

3. Must be able to stand, stoop, lift, push carts and move arms constantly during workday.

Equipment to be used :

• Washer
• Dryer
• Iron

Key Accountabilities (with or without reasonable accommodation) :

1. Sort dirty laundry according to type and location. Must check clothing from East Wing and RCH for names and labels.

2. Able to accurately sort clean clothing in accordance with distribution methods set for particular wing.

3. Folding linens in accordance with laundry policy.

4. Pack and distribute linens to various wings and special units, i.e. Rehab, kitchen, beauty parlor.

5. Able to operate, fill and empty and clean dryers.

6. Able to load and operate washers and sort wet-clean.

7. Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including washers, dryers, drains, carts, storage areas.

8. Able to operate mangle ironer so items are neatly pressed. Hand ironing of personal clothing.
