The Integrated Communication Strategist plays a pivotal role in shaping, enhancing, and executing Capital Blue Cross’ corporate communications and content strategies across traditional and innovative delivery channels. This versatile professional combine strategic thinking with exceptional writing and editing skills to drive impactful and purposeful communications across various media, including digital, video, print, and broadcast.

The position is responsible for developing corporate communications that foster employee engagement with compelling messages and calls to action that align with corporate goals, support enterprise priorities, and promote Capital’s people-first culture. The individual also works with company leadership and peers across the enterprise to convey company initiatives, business objectives, and other updates effectively and clearly.

The strategist also supports the development and execution of Capital’s external content strategy, driving alignment with our internal communications efforts and bolstering our company’s market position. This role requires superior organization and prioritization skills to manage and provide concise, informative, and timely deliverables.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:
  • Serves as primary writer/editor for internal campaigns and corporate communications, producing meaningful content that drives employee awareness and engagement. Takes primary editorial ownership of Capital’s internal, employee-focused intranet site. Leads the planning and internal publishing of relevant news and information that is created collaboratively with areas including Marketing, Human Resources, employee resource groups, and executive leadership. Supports the development and execution of companywide employee engagement initiatives, including employee town hall broadcasts, weekly corporate communications correspondence, and other enterprise-wide business updates. Drafts executive communications, including scripts, speeches, emails, and other messages. Manages efforts to measure employee engagement of internal messaging campaigns and initiatives.
  • Supports development and execution of strategic external content initiatives that support PR, brand journalism, brand equity, and customer experience initiatives. Manages in-house “editorial board” to assess department goals and priorities that help fuel the execution of our content strategy. Solicits insights about strategies and supporting data that substantiate how our programs and services deliver health plan administration value to our market, customers, and communities. Develops and manages reporting and analytics of brand reputation, share of voice, share of sentiment, ad share, and other benchmarks that reflect company’s perception and equity in market. Supports writing, editing, and publishing of brand journalism and PR-focused content, including media advisories, press releases, and brand journalism/blog posts. Assists with the oversight, management, and execution of crisis response planning and execution. Collaborates with Creative &amp Brand Strategy team to develop visual assets that support content strategy objectives.
  • Support brand integrity through comprehensive writing and editing that align voice, tone, and other brand attributes with corporate standards and brand guidelines. This work includes Enforcing writing standards and quality control measures to protect brand identity, internally and externally. Applying critical thinking skills to ensure deliverables are meaningful, accurate, easy-to-understand, and impactful. Emphasizing the customer experience in the creation and coordination of all deliverables. Applying superior organization and prioritization skills to deliver quality work on time.

Skills:

  • Strong writing, editing, communication, and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) among executive leaders and colleagues to resolve issues and differences of opinion, and to obtain accurate information to respond to internal requests and market demands.
  • Proficiency and experience with web design and digital analytics.
  • Ability to quickly learn and translate complex principles, strategies, and information into easy-to-understand content.
  • Flexibility and adeptness to take initiative, shift priorities as new issues emerge, and handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Detail oriented with strong editing and critical thinking skills to ensure clear, concise, and simple deliverables that enhance employee and customer experiences.
  • Strong project management skills. Ability to organize, develop, prioritize, execute, coordinate, manage, and guide implementation of major projects.
  • Willingness to take on a variety of tasks to support others in the Marketing department.
  • Strong PC skills, particularly in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Willingness to learn new software and processes as needed.

Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in using multiple software platforms (including Microsoft Word, Adobe, and Excel) and familiarity with various writing styles.

Experience:

  • 3 years of progressive experience in written communications.
  • Health insurance and investigative journalism backgrounds a plus.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (degree in communications, journalism, or English preferred, but not required) or 6 years of relevant experience in communication in lieu of degree.

Location:

  • This position is classified hybrid, which requires onsite work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced environment that requires flexibility and adaptability ability to perform job assignments independently and ability to adapt to a changing work environment, workload requirements, and reporting relationships.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and see.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
